Methods and devices for coding/decoding/transmitting acoustic signals for the digital transmission of these signals from a transmitter to a receiver and for the digital storage of these signals on a storage medium are described, in which the acoustic signal is cut into time segments and the frequency/amplitude spectrum is determined for each time segment in such a manner that the frequency spectrum is divided into frequency groups and the amplitude is divided into amplitude steps and that a frequency/amplitude matrix is formed from the frequency values determined with the associated amplitude values per time segment, which matrix is then digitally stored.
