PURPOSE:To obtain high-quality pictures for a long period by scraping off the excessive developer remaining on an electrifying member by operating a scraping-off member only at developing operations. CONSTITUTION:This developing device is provided with a developer housing section for housing a developer, developer supplying member 30 rotatably supported in the section 29, electrifying member 28 which electrifies the developer supplied by the member, and developer supporting body 27 which carries the developer electrified by the member 28. In addition, a layer thickness regulating member 32 which regulates the layer thickness of the developer on the developer supporting body 27 and a scraping-off member 35 which is abutted on the an electrifying member 28 only in a developing operation which is abutted on and separated from the member 28 against the member 28, and scrapes off the developer stuck to the member 28 are also provided. Therefore, damage to the member 28 by the scraping-off member 35 can be reduced and high-quality pictures can be obtained for a long period even when the member 28 is used for a long period, since the member 35 is abutted on the member 28 only when the operating operations are carried on. |
