PURPOSE:To obtain a grain-oriented magnetic steel sheet having superior film characteristics and magnetic characteristics by baking an Mg compound at a relatively high temp. and activating only the thin surface layer of the resulting low activity MgO by a fixed quantity by forced hydration. CONSTITUTION:One or more kinds of Mg compounds such as magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, basic magnesium carbonate, magnesium sulfate, magnesium chloride and magnesium nitrate are used as starting material. This starting material is baked at 900-1,200 deg.C and the surface layers of the resulting low activity magnesia particles are activated by 0.3-2% of the amount of the magnesia by hydrate layer forming treatment. |
