Procedure for the production of irregular yarn by air jet texturing and device for the carrying out of this procedure. The procedure essentially consists in subjecting a continuous yarn to the action of a jet of pressurised air and is characterised by the fact that the air pressure applied to the yarn varies between 2 and 15 bars over programmed non-repetitive short time intervals. The device is characterised by the fact that it comprises a pressure regulator 16 and a non-return valve 17, an electrovalve 18 with two inlets 19, 20 and one outlet, which two inlets 19, 20 are connected to the mains and to a branch at lower pressure and a control device 21 generating random pulses which acts on the coil 22 of the electrovalve 18, randomly connecting the two inlets, the outlet being connected to the nozzle 4. A continuous irregular yarn is obtained which is more similar to a natural yarn. It is applied in the textile industry. <IMAGE>
