The method of elasticating oil is employed in the area of oil elimination in the case of oil accidents on water. High molecular weight polyisobutylene, ground and mixed with water in order to render it sprayable, increases the elasticity of the oil floating on the water, so that when extraction by suction is employed a distance is maintained between the oil layer and the suction nozzle, with the result that only the oil film is sucked up without water being pumped up too. This brings about a 10-fold reduction in the disposal of the special waste product, oil.
