The machine for fitting a screw cap (37) to a container has a housing (3) which encloses pivoted jaws (9) and (11). The jaws are arranged in a circle with the first jaws (9) alternating with the second jaws (11). The screw cap (37) is received by the first jaws (9) which place the cap (37) on the container. The lower ends of the second jaws (11) are then swung radially inwards by the upward movement of the central rod (57) which forces the upper ends of the jaw outwards against the force of a spring (41). When the cap (37) has been gripped by the jaws (11), the housing (3) is rotated and screws the cap onto the container. USE - Fitting screw caps to containers. (16pp Dwg.No. 1/6)
