Mouldable silicone elastomer suitable for the manufacture of contact lenses

The mouldable silicone elastomer is obtained by crosslinking an epoxidised (epoxide-containing) silicone composition comprising: - an organopolysiloxane constituent A comprising at least one fluid diorganopolysiloxane A1 carrying at least two Si-vinyl groups per molecule and at least one functional organic epoxy radical, the said diorganopolysiloxane A1 being devoid of chain-terminal SiH groups, and - an organohydrogenopolysiloxane constituent B comprising at least one fluid organohydrogenopolysiloxane B1 having at least three SiH groups per molecule and a single hydrogen atom bonded to one and the same silicon atom. The elastomer obtained is rendered mouldable by grafting saccharide compounds onto the epoxy groups of the elastomer. The invention is particularly applied to the manufacture of contact lenses.
