A wind shear detection and warning system for an aircraft is responsive to a wind shear signal to provide a first warning if the head shear exceeds a first reference level and a second warning if the tail shear exceeds a second reference level. The system may be made more sensitive at low altitudes by reducing the time constant of an averaging filter through which the wind shear signal is passed.
