Cranioplastic bone replacement - by using specified fibre mat cutting and specified plastic implant
摘要
An infected or defective trepanned bone of the skull is replaced by an implant of plastic material (PMM). A flexible silicone fibre burl mat is cut to the size of the trephined area and a layer of plastice is applied to permit the points of the burl to penetrate the layer. After hardening in situ the implant is separated from the mat and the contours of the implant are moulded to the trephined area. ADVANTAGE - This requires no special formation of fine holes (needed for elution of the antibiotics used and for better perfusion) and minimises the final trimming.
