摘要 Railway vehicles with a wheel dia. ranging roughly from O. 0.5 to 1.5 m can eventually give an inaccurate odometer or speedometer reading due to wear, i.e. decrease in dia. to ca. 10 per cent. A probe (1) is mounted so that there is a constant distance between it and the centre (6) of the wheel. The distance between the probe and the running surface (3) of the wheel (5) is continuously detected and a correction signal for the speed or distance indication switched on. Instead of using the wheel centre as the reference point, two separate probes (1,2) can be installed, one being assigned to the wheel part subject to less wear, i.e. flange of railway vehicle or rim of motor vehicle wheel. ADVANTAGE - Continuous correctoin as opposed to normal correction only carried out during inspection or servicing routine.
