A brightness comparator (3) receives brightness signals (2) to recognise the prescence of a charachter in the signal. A position comparator (4) compares the last signal breadth with the next, to produce a SET signal for equality, or a RESET. A times (5) delivers the vertical and horizontal time values of the part image given the full image sync signals, and those of the character regions from the SET and RESET signals. The number of half images where the vertical and horizontal count values of the timer are set, is counted to produce an automatic shift signal when a threshold is exceeded. A microcomputer (7) produces a pix-in pix control signal to move the blended-in picture accordingly.
