The invention relates to a reusable and collapsible package with an inner part (1) receiving the item to be packed (2) and an outer part (5) surrounding the inner part (1) which may be used for fairly heavy items, e.g. sewing machines. According to the invention, the inner part (1) takes the form of a support part from which the item (2) is suspended consisting of a support component (3) for securing the item (2) and at least two supports (4) held at a predetermined distance from each other. Here, the support component (3) is fitted on supports (4) resting on the floor of the outer part (5). The length of the supports (4) is a predetermined amount greater than the maximum height of the item to be packed (2). The package is suitable for materials of various shapes and sizes and ensures that the item is protected against shocks during transport.
