A programmable receiver for signals reflected or passed through a material for detecting defects in the material contains a stage for separating the signals into separate, independent sctions for selective evaluation of waveform components. The circuit contains an a-d converter (18) which feeds digitised signals to a time and amplitude processor (26). It contains a single-channel processing unit for detecting peak values and their corresp. times in one or more of the sections. USE/ADVANTAGE - Detector enables multiple peak value detection in single signal channel for material defect detection and analysis.
