An error correction apparatus comprising a receiver/demodulator (10), a data decoder (11), a parametric error detection and correction processor (12) and a voice synthesizer (13) is provided for the sampling and interpolation of line spectral frequencis. A two-stage error detection test is described which is carried out before error correction (12) is implemented. The test involves determining (20) whether a predetermined threshold change has been exceeded between adjacent sample values and determining (21) whether a potentially incorrect sample value lies outside the range defined by preceding and following values before determining that a correction is required.
