The probe comprises two coaxial electrodes (2, 4), one (2) of which constitutes a cylindrical end extension (4) of a cylindrical probe body (1), and the other (4) of which, shaped into a spike, extends, on the side of the end electrode (2) and in the axis X-X' of the body (1), this body in which are embedded, in an insulating filling material, electronic means for measuring the capacitance of the capacitor constituted by the electrodes (2, 4) which are electrically connected to the said measurement means. The penetration-spike electrode (4) is held in place by at least one insulating annular plug (3), to which the end electrode (2) is also solidly attached. Use for the in situ measurement of the water content of soil. <IMAGE>
