In an ultrasonic vibrator, a plurality of electrode pairs 10, Fig. 2, each including halved electrodes 13, are arranged in a circumferential direction on one surface of an electrostrictive body 11 so as to constitute an electrostrictive element 9, a common electrode 14 being formed on the other surface. The electrostrictive element is grasped between a vibrator 19, Fig. 1, and a metal member 21, the vibrator being provided with foot portions 27 coincident with the electrode pairs. The halved electrodes of the electrode pairs are connected in parallel and AC voltage controlled in relative phase or relative amplitude is applied to respective electrodes. Linear, circular and elliptic vibration can thus be generated in any direction to the vibrator, and elliptic rate can be controlled. <IMAGE> |
