Device and method for detecting the presence of living beings among the goods arranged on a slab (1), especially inside a lock chamber consisting of an outer casing (10) and an inner casing (11) suspended from the former. Scales make it possible to monitor the oscillations of the weights placed on the slab (1). In the case of solid or liquid inert goods, these oscillations decrease regularly, whilst they are sustained by the vital functions in the case of living beings. A discrimination criterion is therefore available for allowing or denying passage through the lock chamber.
