<p>In the manufacture of metal rod, the rolled rod is laid in overlapping coils (1) on a substantially horizontal conveyor (2). It is sometimes necessary to remove the last coil (1A) or several coils from the other coils (1) on the conveyor (2). To this end, a gripper arm (7) is brought into gripping relation with the rear end of at least the last coil (1A) and is then pivoted in a direction at right angles to the direction of movement (A) of the conveyor (2) to lift the gripped coil(s) (1A) from the conveyor (2) and a portion of the rod between the gripped coil(s) (1A) and the coil preceding the gripped coil(s) is severed.</p> |
