A process for preparing an amine cpd. comprises (a) reacting a waste polyester with NH3 gas in ehyleneglycol at 100-200 deg.C and 10-20 atms., (b) dissolving or dispersing the synthesized amide in H2O, (c) halogenating the amide with Cl2 gas to obtain N- chloroalkyl (or aromatic) amide, and dispersing it in H2O, and (d) adding NaOH soln. and an organic solvent to obtain final product by Hofmann transition reaction. Esp. the amide is terephthalamide, and the amine is P-phenylenediamine (PPD). The organic solvent is selected from dioxane, pyridine, dimethylacetamide, THF, CHCl3, benzene or toluene.
