Process for the preparation of a red phosphor based on a matrix of europium-doped calcium sulphide. The two generally known processes are gaseous sulphurisation (with H2S) and sulphurisation with a liquid flow (sodium polysulphide). The invention proposes a sulphurisation using liquid flow, carried out in such a way that it finally results in a matrix in which the europium is inserted in divalent and not trivalent form. The preferred polysulphide is obtained from potassium carbonate and sulphur.
