The converter in accordance with the invention is arranged in the soundproofed cabin (12) of a generator set in place of the original alternator. This converter is driven by the original diesel engine (13) via a clutch (23). It essentially comprises an alternator (20) with exciter integrated into its chassis and an electric motor (21) arranged above the alternator.
