- The invention relates to a method for monitoring, on numerically controlled machine tools provided with an orientable machining head (2) and with a programmable automaton, the positioning of the axes of pivoting of the machining head, which are mutually perpendicular, and coincide at a pivot centre of the said head, with respect to the axes of an orthonormal reference frame, monitoring being intended to detect angular and longitudinal offsets capable of arising when the axes of pivoting of the orientable head are offset from those of the said orthonormal reference frame. - The method consists in carrying out, for each axis of pivoting (X1 and Z1) to be monitored, two measurements of the distance separating the pivot centre (Cp) of the head from a feeling surface (5A) at one and the same point (P) on this surface, respectively from two angular orientations ( alpha and - alpha ) of the head about the axis to be monitored, in order to detect a discrepancy (E) which, compared to an admissible discrepancy, determines the correct or incorrect geometric positioning of the monitored axis with respect to the reference axis. <IMAGE>
