A socket for an electric part has an electric part accommodating space, and a plurality of contacts arranged in parallel relation along at least two opposing sides of the space. Each contacts has a contact arm portion to be contacted with a contact of the electric part accommodated in the electric part accommodating space under pressure, and a curved spring portion for biasing the contact arm portion inwardly in order to exert a pressure contacting force to the contact arm. The socket also has a pivotable lever vertically pivotably supported along a row of the contacts, an operating portion formed on one end of the pivotable lever and adapted to operate the pivotable lever upwardly and downwardly, and an acting portion formed on the other end thereof and adapted to exert an outward force to the contact. When the pivotable lever is pivoted downwardly by the operating portion, the acting portion displaces the contact arm portion of the contact outwardly against the resiliency of the spring portion so that the contact arm portion is separated away from the contact of the electric part.
