The present invention relates to a process for obtaining an aqueous solution of high purity lactulose by passing a lactulose syrup through two low-pressure preparative chromatographic columns containing strongly acidic cationic resin in the K<+> form. One of the columns operates at high temperature to remove galactose and the other at low temperature to remove lactose.
