<p>At each side of the cutting head (38) is mounted a pad arrangement (60), each comprising two pads (62, 64) of a compressible, resilient, electrically conductive material, held separated by spaced-apart ribs (66) also of a compressible material, the arrangement being such that when either of the pad arrangements is compressed, an electrical circuit is made and a signal is thus generated in response to which a cutting stroke of the press is prevented by disabling the motor (18, 20) by which cutting strokes are generally effected.
