In the first stage (a) the equipment is broken-up manually into its main constituents for sorting into e.g. casing elements, electrical and electronic components, special components (picture tubes, etc.) and those contg. pullutants. The second stage (b) segregates electrical and electronic parts smaller than 2 to 4 cm and recovers ferrous and nonferrous materials magnetically. Thirdly (c) residues of grain size less than 1 cm are sorted, and finally (4) grains smaller than 100 microns are divided into metallic and plastic fractions. USE - Esp. with components of radio receivers, audio and video equipment, computers and domestic appliances.
