The spindle press has a retracting ram connected to a hydraulic system. The piston rod is surrounded on the outlet side by two sealing ring units with a gap (16) between them. The gap is connected to an outlet conduit (17) and the piston rod-free space (18), above the piston (19), is connected to a suction and discharge conduit (20). The outlet and discharge conduits are inter connected and are coupled via a common return conduit (22) to the tank (23) of the hydraulic system.
