SYSTEM FOR ADJUSTING SPEED OF CELL IN ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE

PURPOSE:To prevent a cell with high priority from being aborted by aborting a cell with low priority so as to prevent overflow of a buffer when no margin is in existence in the buffer when the speed of an ATM cell stream is adjusted. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 105 controls a buffer 103 and an idle cell insertion device 104 to adjust the speed by inserting properly an idle cell when a cell is read from the buffer 103 and when there is no margin in the buffer 103, the buffer 103 is controlled to abort a valid cell with low priority in addition to the idle cell in the ATM cell stream outputted from an ATM cell transmission circuit 101 thereby causing a margin in the buffer 103 and preventing the abort of the valid cell with high priority.
