REMOVAL OF CONTAMINANTS AND RECOVERY OF METALS FROM WASTE SOLUTION

A method for removal of waste material from waste liquids comprising: introducing a waste liquid containing the waste material into a first of a plurality of liquid treatment containers; contacting the waste liquid in the first liquid treatment container with a first quantity of waste recovery medium for removing the waste material from the liquid for a period of time sufficient to achieve a desired efficiency of recovery of the waste material; cycling the waste liquid from the first liquid treatment container sequentially through each of the plurality of liquid treatment containers to a final liquid treatment container while contacting the waste liquid in each of the liquid treatment containers with additional quantities of the medium for periods of time sufficient to achieve the desired efficiency of recovery in each of the liquid treatment containers; cycling at least a portion of the medium from the final liquid treatment container through the plurality of liquid treatment containers to the first liquid treatment container in a direction countercurrent to flow of the liquid as to maintain essentially constant medium concentration in each liquid treatment container; transferring at least a portion of the medium from the first liquid treatment contained into a medium recycling means; removing at least a portion of the waste material from the medium in the media recycling means so as to at least partially regenerate the medium; and reintroducing the at least partially regenerated medium into the final liquid treatment container.
