Flocculation and/or fixing agent (I) substantially contains or consists of mixt. and/or co-condensation prod. of (A) cationic dicyandiamide resin, (B) poly-Al hydroxy cpd. Prepns. comprises (1) prepn. of (I) as mixt. by mixing (A) and (B). (2) Prepn. of (I) as co-condensation prod. by incorporating (B) in (A). Pref. (A) is reaction prod. of 1 mol. dicyandiamide with 1.0-4.0 mols HCHO in presence of 0.1-2.0 mol. inorganic or organic acid and/or ammonium or amine salt of such an acid and opt. 0.05-0.5 mol. mono-or poly-basic amine. (B) contains 5-20% Al2O3. (B) is chloride, sulphate, formate, or acetate. (I) comprises 60:40 to 5:95 pts. (A):(B). (I) is co-condensation prod. and molar ratio dicyandiamide: Al = 4:1 to 1:4.
