Fabric consists of two sets of threads running across each other, the first set (2) being stronger than the second set (3). The first set (2) has successive regions (4,7) made up of different materials, the material in the first region (4) being stronger and the material in the second region (7) corresp. to that making up the second set of threads (3). The first set of threads (2) can be a weft and have a strong region (4) of glass and/or polyamide fibres and a weaker region (7) of organic synthetic fibres, e.g. polyester. The second set of threads (3) can be a polyester warp. The material is used to wind insulating tubes with the weft parallel to the tube axis. USE/ADVANTAGE - Fibre reinforced plastic insulating tubes for corrosive environments can be wound with a single reinforcing fabric automatically giving the required fibre compsn. in different layers.
