The arrangement on a textile card to condense the web of fibre into a sliver has a funnel condenser followed by a calender roller pair. The web is transferred from horizontal to vertical and then in S formation under a free running lightweight roller and over a similar roller, before entering the funnel. In the carding machine, the web is pref. doffed from the swift and taken through the rollers at the level. The double apron system is mounted on a swivel arm so that to commence the web runs almost unhindered into the funnel. The speed develops, the apron draws the web upwards, engaging the aprons, to lift the lever, and raising the lightweight and free running roller, at the same time lowering the similar roller on the lever arm, so that the web is levelled, and with the air extracted. ADVANTAGE - The air is removed from the web before being condensed, and the action is brought on gradually from standstill to high speed running to avoid breakages.
