Binding inorganic material for forming heat or sound insulation abrasives etc. - using binder of phenol oxidase and lignin

Process for binding inorganic materials, esp. finely divided fibres, spherules, powders, sands and granules, comprises mixing these materials with phenoloxidases and lignin. The bonding agent comprises an aq. soln. of phenoloxidase(s) obtd. from bacteria, plant or fungi that degrade lignin, and lingin; such that the dry solids content is 1-50 wt.% (pref. 3-20 wt.%). The inorganic materials are immersed in or sprayed with the aq. binder soln., then dried and pressed at 100-250C (pref. 150-220C).
