Compressed air splicer has a yarn cutter with a cutting blade at less than 90 deg. to the yarn axis ends can be introduced into opening tubes by guide layers. When an end break is detected, yarn grippers bring the yarn ends (9, 11) into the splicing channel (10) along the direction shown in dotted lines. Cutters (7, 8) cut the ends at an angle of less than 90 degrees to produce an extended end which facilitates opening. At the same time compressed air is supplied to opening tubes (5, 6) to draw in the yarn ends. Guide levers (12, 13) rotate in the direction of the arrows (17, 18) and slightly withdraw the yarns so that the positions of the ends coincide with the jets of the opening tubes. Further guide levers (19, 20) then move the prepared ends into the splicing channel (10) where jets from openings (23, 24) produce the splice.
