A phase-modulated carrier wave is injected by a laser semiconductor source (8, 10) into a line fibre (4) in order to carry digital information to be transmitted. An optimal value of a continuous parameter of this carrier wave, in particular its phase excursion, is to be redefined now and then owing to drifting of the characteristics of the source. This is done based on the variations in the power of a diffracted wave which is returned via this fibre by Brillouin effect in response to an incident wave emitted for this purpose by the same source. Application to telecommunications networks.

|
