The purpose of the present invention is to provide a mode transition control device for a hybrid vehicle, which prevents a second power generation system from being overheated while traveling in a series HEV mode. When a battery (SOC) is at a power generation request threshold value A or lower, the vehicle travels in a "series HEV mode" in which electric power generated by a second motor-generator (MG2) and a first motor-generator (MG1), to which electric power is supplied from a battery, are utilized as driving sources. The hybrid vehicle is provided with a transmission control unit (23) for performing control such that the traveling mode transitions to a "parallel HEV mode" when the vehicle speed (VSP) has reached a switchover vehicle speed while traveling in the "series HEV mode". When a rise in the temperature of the second power generation system, including the second motor-generator (MG2), is predicted while traveling in the "series HEV mode", the transmission control unit (23) changes the switchover vehicle speed to a second switchover vehicle speed (VSP2) which is slower than a first switchover vehicle speed (VSP1) used prior to the determination of the temperature rise. |
