A device for a piston engine provides for the variable operation of the inlet valve (18) actuated via a cam (2) and lever (1). The position of the lever axis (6) can be altered via electro-hydraulic control according to the timing of the suction and compression strokes. The electro-hydraulic control valve (16) locks during the opening cycle, keeping the oil in the hydraulic chamber (12). The lever axis is located on the piston rod (11), and is thereby fixed int he lower position via the control piston (10), allowing the valve to open. USE/ADVANTAGE - Variable valve control without throttle valve, lower losses, reliable at high speeds, compact design.
