Uninterrupted switch=over between two similar microwave sources without cutting off power - combining and re-dividing two waves equally to transmission and dissipative loads, and switching one to transmission on failure of other

Two microwave sources, each capable of providing the power for transmission, are combined in an orthomode input junction (14). The inputs (EA,EB) are coupled to the sources and are followed in sequence by a fixed polariser (16), a movable polariser (18) and on orthomode output junction (20) with outputs (SA,SB) to the transmission load and dissipative load. The fixed polariser is constructed so that the phase difference between the orthogonal outputs is 90 deg. The planes of the fixed polariser thus lie at 45 deg. to the two orthogonal planes of the orthomode junction. The movable polariser is structurally similar to the fixed one. Its planes are normally at 45 deg. to the fixed polariser planes but they may be rotated by +45 deg. relative to it. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. power amplifiers for klystron. No loss of information when switching due to system failure.
