The packing gland is used to seal the high pressure fluid end of a reciprocating plunger. The gland consists of two members which are threadably interconnected and which have longitudinally extending and axially aligned bores within which the plunger reciprocates. An annular recess is formed in the wall of the bore and a seal is accommodated within the recess. Rotation of one member relative to the other causes the seal to expand radially inwardly into contact with the plunger.
