CONTROL OF A COMPACTING MACHINE

A roller machine for compacting earth and similar materials is provided with control devices for variation of the oscillation movement of the roller (1), the movement being excited by an eccentric body (3). The oscillation of the vibration roller (1) is measured and from it the portion of the oscillation is determined having a frequency corresponding to half the excitation frequency and the portion for other oscillations and in particular the excitation frequency. The excitation of the vibration of the roller (1) is controlled so that the harmonic component portion having half the excitation frequency will be a predetermined proportion of the component of the other oscillation components or at least in such a way that this proportion will be as close as possible to the desired value considering the possible excitation, bearing stresses and similar factors.
