A surgical instrument is provided of the type having first and second telescoping shafts (8, 10), a jaw assembly comprising two jaws (4, 6) carried by the front end of the first shaft (10), and a novel handle mechanism (34), and means connecting the rear ends of the two shafts to the novel handle mechanism, so that manipulation of the handle mechanism (34) by the surgeon will cause relative reciprocal axial motion of the two shafts (8, 10), thereby resulting in opening and closing of the jaws (4, 6). |
