The invention relates to a thermal printing head designed to prevent localised overheating. It comprises an elongate heat-conducting chamber (32) which is oriented in alignment with a row (12) of elements (14) heating the printing head (30) and which is used for transmitting heat along the row (12) in order to utilise the distribution of the heat. The chamber contains a heat-transmission fluid and wicks (46). The fluid, in a liquid state, absorbs heat at hot points along the row (12) and, by evaporating, conveys the heat along the row towards colder parts of the chamber, where it condenses to form a liquid returned to the hot points as a result of the capilliary action of the wicks (46). The field of use is thermal printers. <IMAGE>
