An ignition unit for internal combustion engines has an ignition coil, which is formed from a ferromagnetic core, primary and secondary winding arranged thereon and two yoke parts, which on both sides return the magnetic flux between the two ends of the core outside the two windings, and a spark plug terminal contact incorporated in a common housing. The yoke parts form a ring around the primary and secondary winding and are arranged outside the housing, which is of at least partially spherical shape in the area of the windings.
