The invention relates to a rotary printing machine having a forme cylinder (1) and a counter-roller (2), e.g. an impression roller, and a printing web (3) which is guided through between these. In the case of said rotary printing machine, even in the case of an extremely wide printing web and a correspondingly narrow forme cylinder (1), satisfactory printing quality is achieved over the entire width in that the forme cylinder (1) is provided with a fixed carrier (4) and a jacket (8) which can be rotated around said carrier and is supported by means of a series of supporting elements (11) with compressive force controlled individually or in groups. Consequently, a uniform compressive-force profile is achieved over the printing-web width as is, at the same time, a largely planar nip. Deformations and displacements of the forme-cylinder jacket (8) transversely with respect to the printing plane (D) are avoided in that transverse supporting elements (16) are additionally provided in order to exert a restoring force transversely with respect to the printing plane (D) on the forme-cylinder jacket (8). The restoring force of the transverse supporting elements (36) is regulated by means of position sensors (39, 40) or bearing pressure sensors such that the position of the forme-cylinder jacket (8) remains intact even in the case of particularly wide and narrow forme cylinders. <IMAGE>
