FLEX SHAFT COVER RETENTION DEVICE AND METHOD

A flexible drive cable assembly (10) includes a flexible outer sheath (14) enclosing a flexible elongated inner drive shaft (12). The drive shaft (12) is connected to a driving element at one end, and to a driven element at the opposite end. The outer sheath (14) is connected to the housing (16) of the driving element at one end by an end fitting (18), and to the housing of the driven element at the opposite end, so as to be held longitudinally stationary with respect to the inner drive shaft (12) and the two housings. The end fitting (18) includes an elongated connector (20) extending outwardly from the housing (16) to an outer end. The connector (20) has a longitudinally extending aperture for passage of a coupling end (26) of the inner drive shaft (12) for connection to the element disposed within the housing (16). The connector (20) also includes at least one radially extending projection (28) for engaging an inner surface of the outer sheath (14) to hold the outer sheath (14) stationary.
