A method used when an end portion of a constituent cloth of a mattress, which uses springs or an elastic interior material, such as urethane, is enclosed with an edge tape and sewn up, the method consisting of the steps of forming piping portions (6) on the end parts of both of outer panel cloths (1, 1') and a side border cloth (2) by utilizing core strings (5); inserting the piping portions (6) in an aligned state at the end portions of both of the mentioned cloths into a free end portion of a binder (8), into which an edge tape (3) is introduced, with reference to the piping portions (6); providing piping guides (9, 9') at an insert inlet of the binder (8); wrapping the piping portions (6) of the end parts of both of the cloths with the edge tape (3) while guiding and restricting the introduction of the piping portions; and sewing up the resultant portions completely, speedily and reliably.
