The actuator has a housing (1) in which an actuating element (2) is mounted. It can be displaced into three positions and can be coupled to a selector shaft. The housing (1a) is provided with valve-controlled connections (A,B,M) via which a pressure medium is supplied, allowing the actuating element (2) to be acted upon on two different sides. By displacing the actuating element (2a), the respective gear is selected via the selector shaft. The actuator makes it possible to automate motor-vehicle gearboxes designed for conventional manual gear changes.
