The invention relates to a profile control device, in which a cutter is moved behind a tracing head so as to make the device simple in construction and control. A bearing (43) is subjected to rotational control by a submotor (42), and rotation of the bearing (43) causes a leading shaft (44) to vertically (arrow direction D) move in a plane defined by the leading shaft and an auxiliary shaft (41a). When the auxiliary shaft (41a) turns (arrow direction C) through an angle, the leading shaft (44) will turn through the same angle as that angle. The leading shaft (44) has a predetermined length R, and mounts at its other end a tracing head (31) through a bearing (45). With this arrangement, the tracing head (31) turns in parallel to the X-Y plane by driving of the submotor (41) and moves up and down in a plane perpendicular to the X-Y plane by driving of the submotor (42). Accordingly, when the submotors (41), (42) are controlled in accordance with a shape of a model, the tracing head (31) can be always moved a length R ahead of a cutter.
