PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber which is insusceptible to contamination and inhibits air from mixing into a plunger chamber.SOLUTION: A shock absorber includes: a cylinder in which a fluid is enclosed; a piston which slidably fits in the cylinder; a piston rod connected with the piston and extending to the outside of the cylinder; and a damping force generating device which controls fluid flow generated by sliding movement of the piston in the cylinder. The damping force generating device includes: a valve body which opens or closes to generate a damping force on a passage in which the fluid flows; a valve seat which closes the passage when the valve body is seated thereon; and an actuator having a plunger for generating a thrust force to the valve body in a valve closing direction and a plunger chamber which is filled with the fluid to operate the plunger. The plunger chamber communicates with the downstream side of a portion, in which the valve body is seated on the valve seat, in a fluid flow direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
