PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water decomposition type hydrogen generation cell in which the efficiency of a hydrogen generation reaction is made excellent.SOLUTION: The water decomposition type hydrogen generation cell includes: an electrode 2; a photocatalyst film 3 which is arranged in contact with one surface of the electrode 2; a catalytic electrode 5 for hydrogen generation, which is arranged on the opposite side of the photocatalyst film 3 to the electrode 2 side and is separated from the photocatalyst film 3; and an external power source 7 which is connected electrically to the electrode 2 and the catalytic electrode 5 for hydrogen generation. The water decomposition type hydrogen generation cell 100 is characterized in that the coverage of the surface area of the photocatalyst film 3 on the side of the catalytic electrode for hydrogen generation with the catalytic electrode 5 for hydrogen generation is 10-90%.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
